A pair of losses to open the week were erased with a follow up victory by the Kittens.
Ashland fell to Ironton 49-37 on Monday. Morgan Bradley was the only Ashland player in double-figures with 12 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the field.
Ashland could not solve the Russell mystery Friday night as the Kittens fell 44-38. Julia Parker had 11. Bradley added 10.
The Kittens bounced back with a 72-33 hammering of Greenup County. Parker connected on 8 of 10 from the field and finished with a game-high 20 points. Mikayla Martin posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds as did Bradley with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Ashland welcomes Boyd County in a non-district seed matchup on Tuesday followed by a visit from Elliott County on Thursday. Ashland closes out the week with a trip to Morgan County Friday night.
BOYD COUNTY 13-9
In Boyd County’s only game of the week, the Lady Lions saw similar results in their second battle with Huntington St. Joe.
Boyd County fell 84-60 to St. Joe with only two players landing in double-figures. Harley Paynter had 18 points. Bailey Rucker added 12.
Boyd County welcomed Raceland Monday night, visits Ashland in a non-district seed matchup on Tuesday and welcomes Cabell Midland, WV on Thursday.
Fairview did not play any games this week due to the flu.
Fairview welcomed Lewis County Monday night, Menifee County Thursday night and Hannan, WV on Saturday.
ROSE HILL 12-8
A huge week on the hardwood by Bailey Trimble equaled a pair of wins for the Lady Royals last week.
Trimble dropped 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Rose Hill to a 51-33 win over Teays Valley Christian. Bellamee Sparks added 12.
Another double-double from Trimble propelled the Lady Royals to another victory, 61-22 over Covenant, WV. Trimble led the way with 21 points and 10 boards. Delaynee Sparks had 16 and went 12 of 16 from the foul line. Bellamee Sparks added 14.
Rose Hill welcomes Menifee County on Tuesday, visits Green, OH on Thursday and returns home on Saturday with a visit from St. Patrick.
Raceland secured a win it the Lady Rams only game of the week. Raceland defeated Magoffin County 43-25.
Chloe Collins led the Lady Rams with 12 points. Kierston Smith had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Raceland traveled to Boyd County on Monday and welcomes Greenup County on Wednesday for a decisive district tilt to decide the 3/4 seed in the upcoming district tournament. The Lady Rams conclude the week with a visit to Morgan County on Saturday.
Russell continues to show why it very well could be the team to beat in the 16th Region this season with a pair of quality wins last week.
Russell knocked off rival Ashland 44-38 at the “Marv” Friday night and followed with a 62-53 win over 15th Region top-ranked Pikeville on Saturday.
Shaelyn Steele had a game-high 17 points against the Kittens including 8 of 8 from the charity stripe. Aubrey Hill added a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Russell welcomed Cabell Midland on Monday, visits Lewis County on Wednesday and closes the week at Greenup County on Saturday.
GREENUP COUNTY 5-19
Greenup County fell to Coal Grove 60-54 and Ashland 72-33.
The Lady Musketeers connected on only 28.2 percent from the field and placed no one in double figures against the Kittens. Emily Maynard led Greenup County with 8 points.
Greenup County welcomes Grace Christian Tuesday, travels to Raceland on Wednesday and returns home on Saturday with a visit from Russell.
