Impressive. That is the first word that pops into the mind when entering The Venue at the Edge, located in the former Ashland Oil complex on top of the hill above Hobby Lobby in Russell. Boasting 10,000 square feet of space and beautifully designed, owner Kristie Patterson ensured the second-floor space could host a variety of events, including wedding receptions, fundraisers, themed dinners and shows, parties, reunions and business dinners just to name a few.

Patterson came up with the idea of adding a new rental venue a few years back when planning her own daughter’s wedding. “There just weren’t a lot of venue options at that time,” she said.

It was during this time that she and her husband Will were looking to expand their General Heating and Air Conditioning business and needed more space and a larger location. “I went to my father-in-law, Jack Patterson, who is a co-owner in the business and asked him of any ideas he might have. He was the one who brought up the old Ashland Oil complex since it had been up for sale for several years, so we put in a bid and bought it.”

With 26 acres, a 100,000 square foot building and a warehouse, the Pattersons have taken on a big project with the now named Edge Complex. And from the looks of it, they have a winner in not only growing and expanding their heating and air conditioning business, but also the opportunity to become one of the premier rental venues in the area as well as providing additional leased space for other businesses.

“Right now, we have two other businesses leasing from us, but with all the space, we have room for a lot more and can customize the space to suit the needs of any business since the building’s design allow for easy remodeling. We can literally move walls,” she said.

Fully capable of leasing to the ever-growing tech industry, the Edge Complex businesses include the KTCTS training center and a growing APP company named GAM. According to Patterson, GAM stands for the Gospel According to Music. It is a Classic Contemporary Christian internet radio station that plays hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s. You can listen by way of gamradio or download the free apps from the website. The host Kevin Grady has been in Christian radio since 1977.

But for those interested in acquiring a venue rental, The Venue at the Edge has all of the amenities any potential renter could need. For weddings, receptions and other events there is a bridal suite and dressing area, a groom’s room where they boys can hang out, both of which could be used for private dressing rooms, and bar and game room with a pool table and TVs.

For catered events, the venue has a large warming kitchen with prep tables, warming ovens, commercial refrigerators and freezers, sinks, ice machine and dishwasher. Though they do not provide catering at this time, Patterson said she can provide a list of reputable caterers in the area or renters can do their own catering. “It's our goal to become a full-service venue including providing food, linens, service and dinnerware and centerpieces and decorations,” Patterson added.

The space has a capacity of 400 seated comfortably at 50 tables of eight. Patterson said they do provide all tables and chairs and anything else they have on hand for use by the client. “I will help in whatever way I can to make their event truly spectacular,” she said.

With a design of elegant modern industrial décor, it has brick walls with German smear, a high open ceiling revealing beautiful pipes and duct work contrasted against the black ceiling and illuminated with gorgeous metallic ball chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. With accents of barn wood doors, trimming and wooden barrels, the space is diverse and eclectic to give clients “a lot of different looks,” Patterson said.

And if you are looking for a smaller or more intimate space, Patterson can provide that as well with another venue on the first floor called Studio 43. “We can offer a space to suit just about any venue seeker,” she said.

At 4500 square feet, Studio 43 is also beautifully designed with a bar area, portrait area for those wishing to capture the memory and has stringed ceiling lighting that gives a romantic dancing under the star ambiance feel to the room.

Patterson said they are putting the finishing touches on the venues are currently booking reservations for the space as well as seeking other businesses to locate at the complex.
