A "Sweet" Time Planned for First Friday

  Tipton’s Traditions Bakery cooks up a sweet First Friday, Sept. 6 in downtown Ashland featuring colossal cream horns and confections.

            First Friday takes place Friday, Sept. 6, in downtown Ashland on Winchester Avenue First Friday activities begin at 5 p.m. until midnight.

            Tipton’s Traditions Bakery will host the first Cream Horn Challenge outside its storefront located at 339 15th St. The contest will challenge four participants to eat a giant cream horns prepared by the downtown Ashland bakery. Contestants will receive a free T-shirt; the challenge winner will receive $100, and the three runner-up participants will each receive a $25 Tipton’s Traditions Bakery gift certificate. The first contestant to devour the cream horn entirely will be named the winner.

            In addition to the Cream Horn Challenge, Tipton’s Traditions Bakery will also host an open house and provide complimentary sweets and pastries under a tent placed on 15th Street outside the bakery.

            The First Friday Cruise-in welcomes all cars, trucks, jeeps, and bikes to display their rides and connect with area car enthusiasts. All makes and models are welcome. Dash plaques will be given to the first 50 registrants.

            Cars may begin parking at 3 p.m. on Winchester Avenue between 14th Street and 17th St. Vehicles may enter and exit the venue via 16th Street and Greenup Avenue Winchester Avenue will be closed at 14th Street and 17th Street to ensure pedestrian safety.

            Registration is $5 and enters vehicle owners into a nightly door prize drawing.

            The Fat Patty’s Beer Garden, located on 15th Street adjacent to the restaurant, will feature outdoor seating along with craft and domestic beer options. Live music will be performed by Tim Holmes beginning at 6 p.m. and The Whipps at 9 p.m.

            Downtown shops and restaurants will feature extended shopping and dining hours. The Camayo Arcade will host an acoustic music set performed by Holly Forbes from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and GetFiddle Custom Shop will feature a live set performed by Sasha Colette from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

            Children’s inflatables are located on Judd Plaza and 16th Street and are hosted by BC Tool & Party Rental. Inflatable jumping is unlimited during the event and is $5 per child.
