Willa Marlene Cantrell, 82, of Wurtland, KY, loving wife of Paul Cantrell, died peacefully, Saturday morning, May 16, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Marlene was born August 21, 1937 in Boyd County, a daughter of the late John W. Johnson, Jr. and Elizabeth Kirk Johnson Hutchinson. She was also preceded in death, by a son; Paul Mance ‘Buddy’ in 1963, an infant brother, and three sisters; Johnnie Stephens, Rita Crisp, and Nita Howard.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, include a son; Kelly Cantrell of Argillite (girlfriend Cindi Griffith); daughter Elizabeth Jane Cremeans, and husband Larry of Flatwoods; brother Dennis Johnson of Greenup County; two grandchildren: Jessica Darnell, and husband Lucus, of Sparta, NC, and Jeremy Cremeans of Louisville (fiancée Katie Hewitt); one great-grandson: Clint Darnell; brother in law Bob Crisp, and family friend Ginny Cremeans.
Marlene retired from Sears with over 25 years of service in 1996 after working in many different departments. She was a member of Russell First Baptist Church, Flatwoods Homemakers, Russell Senior Center and a Kentucky Colonel. If looking up the word “love” in the dictionary, it would have a picture of Marlene for she was an example of Christ’s love.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Hutchinson Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Preston Family Funeral Home.
